Numerical simulation of high birefringent photonic crystal fiber based on micro-structured fiber core with elliptical holes

In this paper a high birefringent photonic crystal fiber employing nearly rectangular arrangement of four elliptical air holes in the fiber core and cladding air holes has been put forward for the first time.Using a full-vector finite element method,we simulate the mode field,birefringence,dispersion,confinement loss,effective mode area and nonlinear coefficient of the fiber fundamental mode.Such design provides a new approach to get high birefrigence photonic crystal fiber and a new way to improve other properties(such as dispersion and nonlinearity) of photonic crystal fiber.
