Experimental study on the anti-damage characteristic of several different coatings for CO_2 laser

The laser damage threshold and reflectivity are two important parameters for laser power and energy detector.Several thermal coatings,including graphite/anodized aluminum/foreign anodized aluminum coating and microarc oxidation(MAO)coating,have been investigated.The results demonstrate that alumina behaves better than graphite,having a damage threshold of approximately 16 kW/cm2;the reflectivity test shows the MAO coating has a higher absorbance than anodic oxidation.Summarily,MAO coatings are a promising technology for laser detection.
