Study on the band gaps of 2-D metallic photonic crystals

Considered the dispersiveness of metal,the band structures of 2-D triangular lattice metallic photonic crystals is analyzed using the FDTD method.Two kinds of metal:Ag and Al are considered.Taking Ag for example,the first band gap′s upper limit frequency of the triangular lattice is 0.90 and the second band gap′s bound is 1.24~1.41,while the first band gap′s upper limit frequency of the square lattice is 0.70 and the second band gap′s bound is 0.84~1.06,when the filling factor is 0.6.The research results indicate that the triangular lattice has a wider first band gap and a higher second band gap.
