1645 nm ceramic laser resonantly pumped Tm∶CaYAlO_4 laser

The output characteristics of a novel solid-state laser with Er∶YAG ceramic laser as the pump source and Tm∶CYA as the laser crystal is studied. Efficient lasing of resonantly pumped Tm ∶ CYA solid-state laser is demonstrated. Output characteristics under 4. 0 at. % and 6. 0 at. % Tm~(3+)-doping concentrations and different transmittances of output coupler are experimentally studied. The 4. 0 at. % Tm~(3+)-doping c-cut Tm ∶ CYA single crystal is as gain medium. When the transmittance of an output coupler is 5%,the maximum output power in a diffraction-limited TEM00beam( with M~2 of about 1. 1) is 1. 20 W at pump power of 2. 46 W,and the corresponding slope efficiency is 56. 3%.
