Infrared imaging detection of oil and natural gas leakage

The leakage of oil or nature gas can cause fire hazards and explosion accidents,so it is of great importance to develop a rapid and effective infrared imaging detection technique for oil and nature gas. Through the analysis of infrared absorption characteristics of the emissions,the operational wavelength for leak detection is determined to be 3.2 to 3. 5 μm. Considering the motion and diffusion of the leaked gas,two real-time image processing algorithms based on the background dynamic range compression method and the gas edge movement enhancement method are proposed and applied to the demonstration system respectively. Results show that these algorithms can significantly improve the detection capability.
