Relationship between Sense of Humor and Mental Health of University Students

Objective To explore the correlations between sense of humor and mental health of university students.Methods A total of 367 university students were tested by the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale and SCL-90.Results ①Boys were significantly higher than girls in the score of sense of humor.②The SCL-90 scores of students with high sense of humor were significantly lower than those of low sense of humor(P0.001).③Sense of humor correlated significantly to almost all factors of psychological symptom(r=-0.185--0.316,P0.01).④The use of humor as a coping mechanism had a significantly negative effect on psychological symptom.Conclusion Boys are higher than girls in the sense of humor,Sense of humor has a close relation with mental health status.
