THE EFFECT OF FERTILIZER ON GRAIN NUMBER OF PER EAR OF SPRING WHEAT I. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VEGETATIVE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT AND DEGENERATION OF FLORET

The effoct of of fertilizer on vegetative growth,and the relationship between vegetative growth,floret development and seed setting percentages is carried out in the test. The results show that early seeding fertilizer and 3-leaf stage fertilizer enhance seeding growth vigourly and are good for floret differentiation and development. The "peak" of floret number per spike is in meiosis stage. The plants are not over vigrous or early senescence, and supply abundant assimilate for spike. The rate of formative floret and seed-setting are incraesed,so it has the most grain per spike. It is concluded that early fertilizer at seeding and 3-leaf stage is one of the important practices for increasing grain number per ear in local spring wheat production.
