Unsteady Numerical Simulation for Flow Characteristics of Float Meter

The computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method and the dynamic mesh techniques are employed to simulate numerically the unsteady flow characteristics of a metallic float meter.The calculation results show the dynamic balance process of the floater realistically-starting from the initial position,moving up and down,the kinetic energy being damped out,and finally approaching static.It predicts the balance locations of the floater corresponding to a series of flow rates,which is in agreement with the experiment results perfectly.The simulation also provides the detailed distributions of the flow field and the structure of the separation vertex zones.Therefore,the study indicates that CFD method can be employed as an effective means for the float meter design.
