Detection of expression of MDR-1 gene in human gastric carcinoma by RT-PCR

Resistance to chemotherapy is the major obstacle to controlling malignant tumors.To characterize multidrug resistance(MDR)phenotype in human gastric carcinoma, expressions of the mdr-1gene in 30 cases of gastric carcinoma were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction of RNA after reverse transcription.The expression level of cancer cases after chemotherapy was much higher than that of cases without chemotherapy(P0.01).Moderately differentiated gastric carcinomas showed higher level of expression,compared with poorly differentiated gastric carcinomas(P0.05);There was not a significant difference in expression between the carcinomas with metastasis and without metastasis;These results suggest that MDR in gastric carcinoma should be easier induced by chemotherapy and higher expression be correlative with moderate differentiation. MDR should be taken into account for effective Chemotherapy of gastric carcinomas.
