Effects of LDL on the production of reactive oxygen species from glomerular mesangial cells cultured in vitro

Effects of LDL on the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)from glomerular mesangial cells were studied in vitro and compared with its effects on proliferation and LDH-release of glon1erular mesangial cells(GMC).We found that LDL increased production of H2O2 and O2- from GMCmarkedly stimulating for 30 minutes at concentrations of 10~100 mg/L.Levels of H2O2 and O2- in the supernantsf GMC didn' t go on increasing when LDL concentrations were more than 100 mg/L.The curve of ROS-production was similar to that of cell proliferation and LDH-release.Our findings show that LDL may mediate glomerular injury in many ways,including affecting cell proliferation,stimulating LDH-release and ROS-production of GMC.
