Learning from History:Volatility and Financial Crises(Ⅱ)

This article studies the role of market volatility in financial crises,making use of an international database that spans a period of 211 years.Volatility itself does not predict banking crises,but we can evaluate varying degrees of volatility in a number of areas in the financial sector.The degree of volatility can have a direct effect on the stock market,but volatility is not the cause of monetary crises.
