Semi-automatic reverse modeling and finite element analysis on orthodontic of impacted tooth

To guide the clinical orthodontic treatment of impacted tooth,the semi-automatic reverse modeling and finite element analysis on orthodontic of impacted tooth is performed and the stress distribution of the periodontal ligament under different modes of orthodontic traction is compared. Firstly,the rough point cloud data of impacted tooth and jaw are obtained using MIMICS based on CT scan data. Secondly,the precise characteristics of the model are extracted using VC++ self-compiled program,which are imported into CATIA to get the CAD model of the impact tooth,the periodontal ligament and the jaw. Finally,the contact analysis is done by ABAQUS for the orthodontic traction of which the angle to the central long-axis of the impacted tooth are 0°,45°and 90°,and the stress and its distribution of the periodontal ligament in clinical orthodontic is calculated. The results show that the orthodontic traction,of which the angle to the central long-axis of impacted tooth is 45°,is the best clinical operation,and the semi-automatic modeling method combined reverse engineering software with self-compiled programs can improve the modeling efficiency and accuracy.
