Theoretical calculation and numerical simulation for dropping velocity of spent fuel assembly

As to the issue that the spent fuel assemblies might drop in the transportation process through spent fuel pool water,the drop velocities of spent fuel assembly are calculated by two methods,which are theoretical approximate solution and CFD numerical simulation.The results show that,the drop velocities obtained by the two methods are almost same with the maximum error which is less than 5%,that is,both methods are effective for dropping process simulation;in addition,the changes of flow field and pressure around the assembly in dropping process can be obtained by CFD numerical simulation.Although the dropping velocity of the assembly increases gradually,the dropping acceleration changes little,which indicates that the effect of water on the assembly resistance is small.
