Optimization design scheme for improvement of bearing capacity of friction clamp

A finite element simulation model of friction clamp is built. An optimization design scheme for improving bearing capacity of friction clamp is proposed by adding Polyurethane( PU) layers between dies of clamp and steel pipe and designing grooves on the layers. The simulation results verify that the scheme is feasible. The results indicate that,PU layers can significantly improve the bearing capacity of friction clamp; it can enhance the clamp's adaptability to offshore-project environment by designing grooves on the layer which can take both improvement of friction and drain ability into account.
