Optimization design on horizontal stabilizer ribs of aircraft

During the lightweight design on aircraft horizontal stabilizer ribs,the truss rib is used to replace the traditional web rib,and a detailed size and shape optimization is performed by Opti Struct in Hyper Works. During the optimization design,the objective function is the minimization of structure mass,the design variables are the section parameters of rib cap and diagonal truss member,and the constraint conditions are the von Mises stress and the critical buckling factor. The mass of the optimized truss rib is approximately reduced by 29%. It shows that it is feasible to use the method to perform the lightweight design on aircraft horizontal stabilizer.
