Automotive front structure design and optimization based on evaluation rules of pedestrian upper leg protection in Euro NCAP 8. 0

Version 8. 0 of EU new car evaluation rules( Euro NCAP) has modified the test protocol for pedestrian upper leg impact. The new test protocol has less demand for the vehicle front end space,but more requirements for structure design and hard points arrangement. The differences about impact position,angle and energy etc. between the new and old protocols are compared. The structural design of vehicle front end is analyzed according to the rules for pedestrian upper leg impact in Euro NCAP 8. 0,and the test is performed on a typical vehicle. Based on CAE technique,the design is optimized to make the front end structure meet the requirement of pedestrian upper leg impact in Euro NCAP 8. 0.
