Using the machine liquid gas coupling principle, the hydro-pneumatic spring is applied to single stage mechanical friction coupler, which can effectively improve the performance of soft-start of the coupler. In order to investigate the characteristics of the hydro-pneumatic spring and the change law of various influence factors in main parts of the coupler, aiming at the single chamber hydragas spring of the machine liquid gas coupler,a mathematical model closer to the actual conditions of nonlinear load and stiffness characteristics was established. According to the simulation analysis for the load and stiffness characteristics of the hydro-pneumatic spring with simulation software Matlab / simulink,an influence law of stiffness characteristics affected by the initial pressure, height of its nitrogen chamber and the piston rod diameter of the hydro-pneumatic spring system was concluded. The results show that the initial pressure and height of its nitrogen chamber have obvious effect on the stiffness characteristics of the hydro-pneumatic spring, but the piston rod diameter has relatively small impact on it. Hereby,it can be controlled by these factors to change its stiffness characteristics, and then to improve the stability of soft-start and extend the start time of the friction coupler.
