The Collective Appearance and Space Isolation of Cyberspace Society in China

LIU Shao-jie;Center for Sociological Theory and Methodology,Renmin University of China;
Appearance and space are a pair of categories with deep connection. Classical sociologists,such as Durkheim,attached great importance to the collective appearance in the study of social division of labor,group integration,and spatial relations,and had made profound discussions. In the urban reconstruction effort of post-industrial society made by contemporary sociologists,such as Lefebvre,they made further research on the relationship between collective appearance and space compression,space right,space conflict and cyberspace. Under the new circumstances with the rapid rise of cyber society and the unprecedented expansion of urban society,netizens in China have formed a space isolation through collective appearance in network group division deeply rooted in tradition. We should make full use of the ideas of classical sociology and contemporary sociology concerning collective appearance and spatial changes,so as to make a factual survey and theoretical conclusion of the collective appearance and spatial relationship of Chinese cyberspace society.
