A survey of obsessive-compulsive symptoms induced by clozapinc.

Objective: To find out whether obsessive-compulsive symt toms emergent during autipsychotic medication were induced by the drugs. Method: Yale-Brown ar 1 MSCPOR scales were used to evaluate the obsessive-compulsive symptoms in schizophrenic inpath its taking antipsychotic drugs. For the patients with obsessive-compulsive symptoms, the drugs v ire tapered down and withdrawn, in order to see if the symptoms would disapper, and then to verify the relationships between the obsessive-compulsive sumptoms and the use of antipsychotics. Resluts: Of 430 patients, 4 cases were identified with obsessive-compulsive symptoms which were attributed to the use of clozapine, accounting for 1.41% of all patients taking it. Conclusion: Clozapine may induce obsessive-compulsive symptoms and attention should be paid to this risk.
