Objective: To explore the hemorheological characters of schizophrenia with and without family history of psychosis. Methods: 150 cases with schizophrenia and 70 healthy subjects were studied for their hemorheological characters. For further comparison, the patients were stratified into three groups as first rank relative with, second rank relative with and without family history of psychosis. Results: Compared with the healthy controls, schizophrenic patients showed signifficant hypervis-semia. In group without family history, the whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, low shear reduction viscosity and fibrinogcn were significantly higher than that of the group with psychiatric history of first rank relative (P0.05 or 0.01), and the whole blood viscosity was significantly higher than that of the group with psychiatric history of second rank relative (P0.01). The hemorheological indices were not significantly different between the subgroups with family history (P0.05). Conclusion: The results suggested that the changes of hemorheology of schizophrenic patients were related to family history of psychosis.
