Synthesis of 2,3,5 - Trimethylphenol

2,3,5 - trimethylphenol was synthesized from 5 - isopropyl pseudocumence by direct oxidation and catalytic decomposition. The apparent activation energy and the preexponential factor for oxidation reaction of 5 - isopropyl pseudocumence were 62.88 kJ/mol and 2.33×109 h-1 respectivily.The conversion rate for oxidation reaction was 30.57% at 130℃ for 3 hours.The effects of reaction temperature,reaction time and dosage of catalyst on decomposition reaction of 5 - isopropyl pseudocumence hydroperoxide were examined. The optimum conditions for decomposition were as follows: reaction temperature of 60℃ ,dosage of catalyst 0.2% and reaction time of 4 hours. The conversion rate of decomposition reaction was 98.1 % under optimum reaction conditions.
