Synthesis of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cassava Starch with High Viscosity

2%sodium carboxymethyl cassava starch solution with the viscosity of 1 895 mPa?s was synthesized using cassava starch as main material and ethanol as solvent.The effects of dosage of monochloroacetic acid,time and temperature of alkalization,time and temperature of etherization,dosage of sodium hydroxide and ethanol on the viscosity of sodium carboxymethyl cassava starch were examined.The optimum reaction conditions were obtained as follows:n(AGU):n(monoacetic acid):n(sodium hydroxide)=1:1:2.4,w(cassava starch):to(ethanol) =1:5.3,time and temperature of alkalization were 120 minutes and 35℃respectively, time and temperature of etherization were 90 minutes and 55℃.The effects of addition of NaCl and Na_2CO_3 on the viscosity of solution containing sodium carboxymethyl cassava starch were determined,and the result showed that addition of NaCl and Na_2CO_3 decreased the viscosity of the solution.Cassava starch and its derivative were characterized by IR spectrum.
