To Please and to Be Pleased:A Patriarchal World
This paper intends to disclose Henry Fielding's patriarchal writing in his masterpiece The History of Tom Jones,a Foundling through examining the three male characters' chauvinism over the women around them respectively. To fulfill this goal, feminist theory, especially Virginia Wolfe's and Simone de Beauvoir's theory are employed. To finalize the analysis, this paper arrives at the point that Henry Fielding's writing is preoccupied with male chauvinism and the society in his novel is male centered.
