On Guan Yus Characteristic Evolution

CAO Meng(Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052,China)
The Three Kingdoms embodied the certain development in portraying some characters personalities but not the total depiction of "stage design" category. This stood out in describing Guan Yus ideological personality. Guan Yu was initially the mastermind in the group of Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, and the loyalty and bravery were the foundation of his personality. With Zhuge Liang entering this group, Guan Yus status as being a mastermind gradually lost and with his constant lucky victory in war and diplomacy, Guan Yu increasingly became haughty and self_important, and at last he went to death for his haughtiness developing into arrogance, thus forming an evident trait of his personality evolution. Based on this, the author artistically expounds the motto of "Haughtiness invites disaster while humility receives benefit" and expresses the modest and scholarly personality ideal and the trend of personality education of guarding against conceit and rashness.
