Dynamic responses and failure modes of steel structures under blast loading

Based on a typical normalized blast overpressure model with limitation of air diffusion and considering the effects of strain rate and damage accumulation on steel material,numerical simulation and analysis on dynamic responses and failure modes of steel column and plane steel frame under blast loading are performed by using ABAQUS finite element analysis software.The results show that the dynamic behavior of the steel structure,which is subject to the blast loading,can be effectively simulated by employing the Johnson-Cook constitutive model and the failure criterion considering the effects of damage accumulation.The bearing capacity of the steel column,which is subject to the blast loading,can be effectively improved through reducing the concentrated load at top of the column and decreasing the length of the column.The integral collapse of the plane steel frame,which is subject to the blast loading,is mainly caused by the loss of bearing capacity of the steel column with irrecoverable plastic deformation.
