Studies on design theories of concrete beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates

Flexural design guidelines of concrete beams strengthened with prestressed high strength CFRP plates are investigated systematically based on the experimental studies and theoretical analysis.This paper presents the calculated methods of prestress losses,cracking moments and flexural capacity according to the failure with a balanced ratio,compression-controlled failure and tension-controlled failure,respectively.The jacking stress values are proposed to be 0.5 to 0.6 times as much as the ultimate tensile strength of the CFRP plates.In addition,the calculated formulas of crack width and deflections of concrete beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates are provided with the equivalent of CFRP plates taken into account.
