A general survery of silicosis was conducted among 7208 workers exposed to dust in the material workshop of Jinzhou Ceramic Factory from 1948 to 1983 of the 7208 workers in the workshop during that period 31 suffered from silicosis, at an incidence of 4.12‰. This paper analysed the dust harmful to the workers by means of life table. Since synthetical dust-preventive measures, mainly of wet operation, was adopted in this shop in 1965, the sanitary conditions have remarkably been improved, the dust concentration dropped from 65.7mg/m~3 to 1.6mg/m~3, the percentage of standard concentration of dust has reached 60% at every operation area in the workshop and silicosis occurred at the average age of 46, and at the average working age of 23 years. As shown in the paper the average ege of incidence and the average working age of incidence may be prolonged with the drop of dust concentration. The dustpreventive measures have also been proved to be effective to a considerable extent.
