Separation and Beneficiation of Berberine Hydrochloride by Aqueous Two Phase from Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex

Objective To explore methods of extraction and separation of berberine hydrochloride from Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex in aqueous two phase systems.Method By experiment,the non-ionic surfactant PEG400/(NH4)2SO4 as a two aqueous phase system for the extraction and separation of berberine hydrochloride in Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex as studied.The effect of operating parameters,including the concentration of PEG400 and(NH4)2SO4,pH and temperature on extraction,time of water bath and separation of the two aqueous phase system was studied in depth.Results The extraction rate of berberine hydrochloride in the aqueous two phase system was up to 99.52%.The method was shown to be reproducible and reliable.Conclusion The method of aqueous two phase could be applied to extraction and separation of berberine hydrochloride in industry due to conveniently of procedure,highly of extraction rate and repeatability.
