THE CHINESE SPECIES OF TRIBE DENDROTHRIPINI WITH DESCRIPTIONS OF TWO NEW SPECIES (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)

Zhang Weiqiu Tong Xiaoli(South China Agricultural University)
The Dendrothripini comprise a group of small and leaf-feeding thrips. This present paper deals with nine species of the Tribe included three genera Asprothrips, Dendrothrips and Pseudodendrothrips, collected from China. Among them, two species are recorded as new to China, Asprothrips fuscipennis Kudo; Pseudodendrothrips bhatti Kudo, two species are described as new to science. The distributions and hosts are given and a synoptic key to the known species is provided. Type specimens of the new species and other collections are deposited in the South China Agricultural University.Dendrothrips homalii, sp. nov. (figs 1-7)Female: Length 0.82- 0.90mm, body dark brown. Abdomen with a median longitudinal strip of light brown extending through terga Ⅱ-Ⅶ. Light brown except the tarsi which are pale yellow. Fore wing with a uniform coverimg of microtrichia and greyish brown in distal three fourths, fore vein with 4 basal and 2-3 apical setae, hind vein with 9 setae. Antenna 8-segmented. Pronotum transversely reticulate (fig. 2), sculpture on sides of abdominal terga Ⅲ toⅧ as in fig. 6.Male: Unknown.Host plant: Homalium hainanense Gagnep.Holotype (?) , Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, 1974- Ⅻ - 7, collected by Zhang Weiqiu on Homalium hainanense leaf; Paratypes 32 (?), same data as holotype and Jianfeng Mountain, Hainan Is., 1980-Ⅶ-7 (Zhang Weiqiu). This species is closely related to D. strasseni Bhatti, but differs from the latter in the following characters. The sculpture of pronotum surface without granules and setae; upper vein of forewing with 4 basal setae, lower vein with 9 setae. D. strasseni with coarse granules and setae on the pronotum; upper vein of forewing with 5-6 setae, lower vein with 5-6 setae. Pseudodendrothrips ulmi, sp. nov. (figs. 8-14)Female: Length 0.85 mm, Head and thorax yellowish brown, abdomen yellow, Ⅲ-Ⅶ with two greyish brown shade on side (fig. 9). All legs yellow but femora pale brown on median portion. Antennae 9-segmented, 3-4 segments with forked sense cone longer than half length of their segments. Mouth cone long reaching the median of mesothorax, maxillary palp 2 segmented. Fore wing yellow, costa with 23 setae, upper vein with 6 setae which are dark brown amd stout, brown shade at each upper vein setae position (fig. 14).Male: Unknown.Host plant: Ulmus pumila L.Holotype (?), Tianmu Mountain, Zhejing Province, 1986-Ⅷ-18. Collected by Tong Xiaoli on Ulmuspumila L., Para types 12(?), same data as holotype. This species is closely related to P. fumosus Chen, but the latter can be separated by that the body color is difference; the forked sense cone of antennae 3-4 segments shorter than half length of their segments; fore wing grey, lighter on basal area; upper vein with 7 setae.
