A NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS PORTHESIA FROM CHINA (LEPIDOPTERA: LYMANTRIIDAE)

Porthesia pulchella sp. nov.This new species Tesembles Porthesia similis Fueszly, but can be distinguished f rom the :latter by: the body is white mixed with black-brown, the anal tuft is white; fore wing triangular, white,sparsely irrorated with black-brownish scales on the discocellulars just above the origin of vein M3, on the inner margin area irrorated very thickly with black-brownish scales; hind wing white, on the inner margin area irrorated very thickly with black-brown; whereas in Por-thesia similis the head and thoax white, abdomen and anal tuft yellow, white at the base, fore wing white on the inner margin with two brown spots, hind wing white. The male genitalia differs, uncus very long and broader, saccus very narrow and long; whereas in latter uncus very short and smali, saccus very broad and long.Holotype ♂, paratype ♂, Pingbian, Yunnan, 1500 m, 20. VI. 1956, collected by Huang Ke-re, deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica.
