Potential Paths to Cardiovascular Disease in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

CHENG Li-qin;West China School of Preclinical and Forensic Medicine, Sichuan University;
Posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) is a lengthy persistent psychiatric disorder following the exposure to traumatic events.Recipients with PTSD are suffering from disturbing recurring flashbacks, avoidance or numbing of the reminders of the event, and hyperarousal. It is shown that PTSD is a risk factor of cardiovascular disease(CVD). However, the specific mechanism remains unclear. In this article, we reviewed the CVD risk factors associated with PTSD in terms of physiology, behavior, psychology and genetics and supposed that the alternations of them can interact with each other and work together to promote the onset and progression of CVD. So, we can prevente CVD in the early stage by controlling these risk factors effectively.
