Bearings-only Emitter Localization Using Total Least Squares

A total least-squares(TLS) algorithm was developed for two-dimensional location estimation of a stationary target by using only passive bearing measurements of the targetwith single observer.After a critical review of the least-squares(LS) algorithms,a TLS estimation algorithm was given with the advantage of simplicity and reduced bias in the presence of bearing noise and observer position errors.The algorithm was tested in Monte Carlo simulation and its results were compared with that of LS estimator.From the results,it can be seen that this algorithm is an effective method.
