Investigation on internal weapon separation characteristics and flow control methods

An experiment was conducted in a high speed wind tunnel to investigate external / internal weapon separation characteristics. Passive and active control methods,namely leading edge saw and leading edge mass injection,are explored to improve internal weapon separation characteristics. Test Mach numbers are 0. 6,0. 9 and 1. 5. Force balance was used to obtain aerodynamics of weapon modal. Test results indicate that internal weapon separation characteristics are more complicated than that of external weapon,and it exists potential hazard when internal weapon separating from carrier aircraft. Aerodynamic characteristics of internal weapon are dramatically affected by weapon bay length-to-depth ratio L / D,peak pitching moment increases markedly with the increase of L / D. Both of passive and active control methods carried out in this paper can improve separation characteristics of internal weapon effectively.
