The Artistic Representation of "Spirit" in XU Hun's Poetry

ZHAO Li-ling,ZHOU Jin-sheng(Language Culture Dissemination Department,Hubei Industrial University,Wuhan 430068,Hubei,China)
XU Hun was an excellent but controversial poet in the late Tang Dynasty. Many poets have analyzed XU Hun's poems from the angle of "spirit".Some commented on his poetry with such words as "lacking in spirit and style" and "no profound spirit",which is in fact improper. In my opinion,XU Hun's poems are full of "spirit",including the "spirit" of his personality and interest, the "spirit" of rhythm and rhyme, the "spirit" in his well-knit poetic structure, and the "spirit" in his precise wording.
