Finite Element Numerical Simulation of Rock-fill Dam with a Clay Core Based on the Duncan-Chang Model

Based on Duncan-Chang nonlinear elastic material model,this paper carries out a numerical analysis of rock-fill dam with a clay core,under the construction in Yunnan Province,by using finite element method to obtain the stress and deformation of the dam in two conditions: filling construction of the dam step by step and the normal water storage plus 9-degree seismism.The results show that:because of the "arch effect",stress concentration occurs in transition layers,but stress drops sharply in the clay core;the distribution of stress and displacement accords with the general rules,but the action of 9-degree seismism may cause the instability of the dam.For the purpose of improving the seismic stability of the dam,some engineering measures should be taken.
