THE DISCOVERY OF WAKABAYASHILITE IN CHINA

Wakabayashilite, a new mineral reported by A.Kato et al in 1970, has been found, in association with realgar, orpiment and pyrite, from Shuiluo arsenic deposit, Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi, China.Detailed studies have been made and some new data obtained. Wakabayashilite is golden to lemon yellow in colour,and occurs as aggregates of fiber silky to resinous. In reflected light, it is grey white with reddish tint.Weakly anisotropy, strong birefringence, internal reflection golden yellow. Specific gravity 4.0. Electron microprobe analysis gave(%): As 51.7, 53.7, 54.8,53.4, 55.0, 51.18, 54.81; S 38.4, 36.6, 37.3, 37.43, 38.5, 38.93, 34.29; Sb 9.8, 10.5, 8.7, 9.0, 6.81, 9.90, 10.90; Sum 99.9, 100.8, 100.8, 99.83, 100.31, 100.01, 100.0, corresponding to (As, Sb)_(11.6) S_(18), (As, Sb)_(13.1)S_(18), (As,Sb)_(12.1) S_(18),(As,Sb)_(11.8) S_(18),(As,Sb)_(11.4) S_(18), (As,Sb)_(13.5) S_(18) respectively. DTA shows five endothermic peaks at 297, 367, 505, 714 and 761℃。The strongest lines in X-ray powder pattern are(in)6.30(10), 5.40(7), 4.75(8), 3.49(9), 3.165(5), 2.240(5). 2.130(5), 1:842(8), and 1.587(5)。
