TiO2 loaded on vermiculite was synthesized by sol-gel technique with tetrabutyl titanate as the titanic source,and natural layered vermiculite as substrate.The TiO2/vermiculite catalysts were characterized by XRD,SEM,TG-DTA,FTIR and BET.The photocatalytic activities for photodegradation of methyl orange under UV light irradiation were investigated.The effects of the catalyst concentrations,the concentrations of methyl orange solution,the amount of TiO2 loaded,the pH of solution and the calcination temperature on the photocatalytic efficiency have also been investigated.The experiment results showed that TiO2/vermiculite catalyst calcined at 200 ℃shows higher photocatalytic efficiency.The discoloration rate of methyl orange solution reached 99% and the COD reduction was 81% at 20 mg/L concentration of methyl orange solution and 2 g/L of catalyst concentration under UV light irradiation for 90 minutes.
