Analysis of Foundation Bearing Capacity of High-stacked Culverts in Tumen-Hunchun Highway

To find the improved effect of lateral fill on the foundation bearing capacity of high-stacked culvert,based on the similar principle,high-stacked culvert foundation model tests were designed to simulate the culvert foundation deformation process under different lateral fill heights. The pressure-settlement curves were drawn and the foundation ultimate bearing capacities were measured by the curves. Meanwhile the errors among the calculated results with Code for Design of Ground Base and Foundation of Highway Bridges and Culverts,the empirical formula and the measured results were calculated. The settlement observation points were buried in the bottom of highstacked test culvert located in pile number RK365 + 510 in Tumen-Hunchun highway to measure the basement settlement. The results show that the bearing capacity significantly increases with increasing of lateral fill height,but the growth is nonlinear. It firstly increases from 18. 4% to 36. 83% and then reduces to 8. 91%. Not only the selected formula but also the impact of parameters provided by different test methods will be considered to calculate the foundation bearing capacity. The basement maximum settlement of the test culvert meets the requirement of the code.
