The Effort to Transform the Discipline of Radiochemistry in China at the Beginning of 1980s

ZHANG Zhihui;LIU Pei;
Radiochemistry in China was looked as a tool supporting nuclear development and largely relied on the needs of national defense.Its own discipline construction was ignored.At the beginning of Reform and Opening era,scientists in radiochemistry tried to seek the transformation and to enhance the basic research through making 'discipline plan for Radiochemistry' and establishing a professional society for Radiochemistry.However,arguments occurred among different departments of the discipline.Core issues of disagreement included the title of the society,affiliate units,the academic journal and candidates for the director and so on.This reflects different ideas on the subject and interests held by different departments.As the consequence,the effort of transformation did not reach ideal results.This paper studies the processes of making and revising 'Discipline plan for Radiochemistry'and the establishment of the academic society,and explores several questions encountered during the seeking of independent development of the discipline.
