Analysis of the effects of the tuberculosis control project in Gaozhou city of Guangdong province

Objective To evaluate the outcome of the TB control project loaned by the World Bank in Gaozhou city. Methods The patients with the TB symptom came for the treatment in the clinic were screened by X-ray examination. The TB patients confirmed by sputum examination were treated with regular chemotherapy regimen and managed by DOTS system. Results During the decade studied, 20124 suspected TB patients were screened and the detection rate was 37.77%. There were 5108 cases who were confirmed active TB. Among them, 3917 cases were sputum smear positive, which accounted for 77.74% of the active TB patients. The notification rate of being smear positive increased from 13/100,000 to 33/100,000. The cure rate of the initial treatment was 97.71% and of the re-treatment 84.10%.Conclusion In the past 10 years, the level for the TB control through DOTS system has been raised greatly.
