Efficacy of tetrandrine on the prevention of radiation induced lung injury

Objective To observe the efficacy of tetrandrine on the prevention of radiation induced lung injury in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.Methods During 2013.07-2015.04,80 patients with non-small cell lung cancer were randomly divided into two groups.40 patients in the test group received radiotherapy with 60 mg tetrandrine( 3 times a day) from the first day to the ending,while 40 patients in the control group received radiotherapy only.The radiation induced lung injury was observed after the treatment.Results The incidence of grade2 + radiation pneumonitis and radiation induced lung fibrosis of the test group were lower than those of the control group( radiation pneumonitis 16.2% vs 36.8%,P = 0.043;radiation induced lung fibrosis 13.5% vs 34.2%,P = 0.036).Conclusion Tetrandrine can be used to prevent the radiation induced lung injury in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
