Objective:to evaluate the changes of urinary EGF before and after surgery in patients with salivary gland diseases.Method: 33 cases and ten control subjects were enrolled in the study. Urine was collected before and after(weekly) operation and EGF concentrations were measured with the radioimmunoassay.Result:EGF levels decreased a little in patients group before(19.89 μg/L)and ofter(20.64 μg/L) than in cortrol group(24.70 μg/L) but its' levels increased a bit both parotid gland(17.16 μg/L) and submandibular gland (18.32 μg/L) there is no significant difference between two groups (P0.05).Conclusion: The EGF levels of urine increased compensationally when a lateral parotid or submandibular gland resected which play an important role for EGF to protect the oral cavity .
