The three-dimesional finite element analysis of the mandibuar ramnus distaction osteogenesis

Objective:To establish a 3 D finite element model with better biomechanical similarity to the situation in v-ivo for the study of mandibular ramus distraction osteogenesis.Method:A young man with normal occlusion was adopted for CT scanned transverse section which was then used to establish the model by computer software.Tension only spar element and compression only gap element were both used for boundary condition and distraction osteogenesis with corticotomy was simulated. Result: A whole 3 D finite element model including mandible ramus, body, TMJ, muscles, ligaments was presented.Conclusion:The above mentioned method could improve the biomechanical similarity of the finite element model, which lays a good foundation for a series of studies on distraction osteogenesis of the mandible ramus.
