Investigation of water sorption and solubility of three silicone rubbers for maxillofacial prostheses

Objective:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the water sorption and solubility of new prosthetic silicone elastomer-ZY-1,and compare them with those of A-2186 and SY-1.Method:Water Sorption and solubility of SY-1,A-2186 and ZY-1 were determined and compared.Statistical analyses were done using a two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA).Result:The water sorption and solubility of ZY-1 addition-type silicone elastomer were similar to those of A-2186,which was markedly lower than those of SY-1.Conclusion:ZY-1 addition-type silicone rubber processed low water sorption and solubility for use as a maxillofacial prosthetic material.
