Investigation of the anti-heat aging abilities of three silicone rubbers for maxillofacial prostheses.

Objective:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anti-heat aging abilities of new prosthetic silicone elastomer ZY-1,and to compare them with those of A-2186 and SY-1.Method:Mechanical properties before and after heat aging of ZY-1,A-2186 and SY-1 were determined and compared.Statistical analyses were done using a two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA).Result:After heat aging,the tensile strength,elongation at break,tear strength,and the hardness of three elastomers all showed downtrend.The percentage changes in mechanical properties after aging was no significant difference between ZY-1 and A-2186.However the The percentage changes in elongation at break,permanent deformation and tear strength of ZY-1 and A-2186 were less than those of SY-1.Conclusion:ZY-1 addition-type silicone rubber processed good anti-heat aging abilities for use as a maxillofacial prosthetic material.
