Objective:This study aimed to access the clinical effects of orthodontic treatment in patients with absence or extraction of upper lateral incisors. Method:Eleven patients(4 male and 7 female) with absence or extraction of upper lateral incisors because of malformation, caries, misplacement were collected. The average age was 18.91 ±5.20. All the patients were treated with orthodontic space closure using class Ⅱ or class Ⅲ elastics. Cephalometric films and casts that were taken before and after orthodontic treatment were measured and analysed. Result:Before and after treatment, the percentage reduction in weighted PAR score and each of the PAR score difference were statistically significant. There were significant changes in SNA、SNB、U1-SN、U1-NA(mm)、U1-NB(mm),but not in MP-SN、MP-FH when the MP-SN increased 0.73°and MP-FH increased 1.30°. Conclusion:Patients with abnormal upper lateral incisors could be treated successfully by extraction of the upper lateral incisors.
