Studies on the effects of pulsating electromagnetic fields and functional appliances on the changes of rat mandibular condylar insulin like growth factor I expression

Twenty male 5 week old growing SD rats were equally and randomly divided into four groups: control group, pulsating electromagnetic field (PEMF) group, functional appliances (FA) group, combining PEMF and FA group. After 10 days experiment, the result showed: both PEMFand FA could significantly increase insulin like growth factor I(IGF I) expression in rat mandibular condylar cartilage cells( P 0.05). It suggested that PEMF can enhance the orthopedic effect of functional appliances.
