The Demographic Analysis of the Widowed in China During 1990s

This paper analyses the demographics of the widowed in China during 1990s according to the data of the fourth(1990) and fifth(2000) national census.The analyses show the widowed in China has a series of demographic characteristics,such as aging,more male,increasing of the widowed ratio and size of the widowed,the size of the widowed in the rural has a more rapid increasing compared to the Urban.Education is a very important variable,with the increasing of education received,the widowed ratio of the female and the male shows increasing differences,the education of female widowed generally much lower than the male widowed,and more and more female widowed are illiterate or semi-illiterate.Vocation affects the widowed ratio too,the lower class of vocation people engaged, the high ratio of the widowed.At the same time,the different aged widows distribute differently in the family size,on the whole,the family size of the widowed is increasingly smaller.
