TOOTH-BREAKAGE ANALYSIS OF THE GEAR PAIR OF REDUCTION GEAR-BOX IN PG6531B GAS TURBINE

In this paper, tooth-breakage of the gear pair of reduction gear-box in PG6531 gas turbine-No.1 was analysis. Emphasis were put on chemical composition , mechanical properties, microstructure and metallographic examination, combined with SEM fractograph examination on failed gear pair. It was concluded that the failure was due to improper material selection, insufficient surface hardness, pulsed over-load and brittle inclusions which resulted in fatigue fracture. According to experiment results, measures to prevent such failure have been suggested.
