Coping China's Population Aging with a Strategic View
YANG Xiaoqi;China Research Centre on Aging;
Population aging is an important comprehensive issue that will exist for a long time. This issue, therefore, should be handled timely with a strategic view. However, it is not the case in China for the time being. The main problems are as follows. Many do not have an adequate understanding of the issue and just regard it as an issue related to older persons or people's livelihood. We still lack the top-level design and a strategic system to cope with population aging. A policy system is still not in place and hence the poor effect. The current mechanism cannot make relevant agencies effectively promote the work of aging. All those are hindering our work to cope with population aging. In respond to this, we need to stand at the point of " new era", identify goals with a strategic view and from the perspective of an aging society. We should also look at the issue with a full life-cycle view and let older people play a bigger role in society. We need to sort out our thoughts, enhance the top-level design and improve relevant mechanisms in order to cope with population aging timely and in a scientific and comprehensive way.
